Weekly Felt Making course with Lisa Fretwell

27th September @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

For this five week series of classes Lisa will teach you the art of felt making using wet felting techniques.

Over 5 weeks you will be introduced to the history of feltmaking, learn how to blend colours using carders, learn how to combine felts, manipulation techniques and how to embellish your work with other materials. These techniques will then be used to create a final three dimensional outcome during the final two weeks, such as a vessel, bag, picture, phone cover and more.

During the process of the course you will create an artwork as well as creating a selection of samples.

By the end of this course you will have learnt to:

• Incorporate one or more of the ‘sample’ techniques to make a final piece.
• Learn how to make and create patterns using roving.
• Learn how to lay fibres over a resist to make a 3D form
• Make a resist, allowing for shrinkage rates.
• Lay out fibres over a resist to get an even coverage.
• Identify when to remove the resist.
• Learn to full the felt evenly so as to avoid getting ‘seams.’
• Learn how to design a small scale 3D item, considering rates of shrinkage and the final desired shape.
• Display the finished items and discuss the results with the group.
