Art History – Modernism – 1910-1980
This course is aimed at anyone who would like to learn how more about how to analyse works of art, with a specific focus on Modernist movements. Lisa will introduce you to a variety of artworks and explain why and how these were being produced between approximately 1910 –1980. You will study a wide range of artists, look at their influences, and their techniques including, Pop artist Andy Warhol, the illusionistic work of the Op artists such as Bridget Riley, kinetic art by Alexander Calder, existentialist work by Francis Bacon, and concrete art by Dame Barbara Hepworth.
You will learn through a series of power point presentations, worksheets, quizzes and via small group discussions.
By the end, of this course you will have met new, like minded people, and have the ability to analyse and understand more about artist’s work from the 20th Century. If appropriate, there will be the opportunity to visit exhibitions and Art screenings during the year.
Through attending this course you will gain a basic understanding of how Modernism came about and the ability to recognise the key artists work and style.
Lisa will explore a different artistic era each term in chronological order.
