Pottery for beginners and improvers
4th May @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

This 8-week course will guide you through different techniques to make both sculptural and functional pottery.
This course is open to complete beginners as well as people wanting to improve their pottery skills. You will be supported in a warm and relaxed learning environment with opportunity to pursue your own projects.
When: Beginning on Thursday 4 May for eight weeks, 6.30pm to 9pm (2.5 hours)
Format: You will learn about the ceramic process from mud to mug; each week focusing on traditional techniques such as coiling, slab building and using basic moulds to create ceramic forms. You will also have the opportunity to use the potter’s wheel with one-to-one instructions. At the end, you’ll have the time and individual support to work on an independent project and decorate your designs using both coloured slips and glazes. All finished works will be fired in the kiln at Rowan after your last session, and will be available to take home after about 2weeks.
Materials: All materials and tools will be provided, however you’re welcome to bring images and books for inspiration.
Tutor: This course is led by local potter Beci Callow (https://becicallow.com/)
Cost: £200
What to wear: All materials and tools will be provided, but you are welcome to bring in any materials for your own projects. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting a little mucky.
Accessibility: The Rowan building is wheelchair friendly and has accessible facilities. Please get in touch with us to let us know if there is something you need to be able to participate in our courses.
Transport: We do not have any parking at our building. On street parking is available and free after 5pm each day. There are also regular buses on Chesterton Road just a five minute walk from Rowan.
All of our community evening classes continue to support and help the running of Rowan’s day-to-day activities for adults with learning disabilities.
