Mixed Media Collage course with Cläre Basel

During this 2-day workshop you will be making collage papers using mixed media and then composing art pieces with them; you will start by creating and choosing papers and then collage with them!

This workshop will introduce you to the magic of wet-strength tissue paper and how it can be transformed with paint and mixed media. You will then have a chance to grapple with various approaches to composition, test your ideas and experiment with techniques developing your ideas into collage paintings.

When working on a collage piece you can build up the layers and make changes more easily than you can with paint. You can re-arrange areas of your composition and test ideas before making your final choice. It is a quick and easy way to work with colour and texture and allows freedom to cover up areas that you want to change. Many times the chance arrangement of shapes helps you better understand what you really enjoy and energises your creativity which you can then apply to your art practice. Working with collage papers can lead to a better understanding of colour and composition as well as developing your creativity and being a joyful activity!
