This is a reflective course to help you to reconnect with the inquisitiveness, observation and instinct of childhood, something we often lose sight of as adults. Starting with your creativity journal or sketchbook you will record your ideas and personal reflections as you work your way through the course. This will include some experimental art-making exercises and guided meditations.
Working alongside like-minded artists in an open, respectful and non-judgemental space will enable you to develop a healthy creative mindset that will support your art-making process and allow you to connect deeply with your inner voice and unique, authentic expression. Through playful exploratory exercises, you will begin to question the beliefs you may hold about yourself and your art-making process. Being honest with ourselves about our innermost thoughts enables us to find the courage to make important adjustments and changes to our practice. Through connection with our own processes, we learn the truth about our core sense of being and bring renewed energy and unique expression into our creative work.
When you can pay close attention to your own flow of energy you will become the curious, compassionate observer of your own processes and learn how to move past the creative blocks and challenges in your path. By the end of this course, you will have a set of personal tools and strategies to work with as you develop your unique voice and move forward in your creative practice.
Facilitator: Jill Ogilvy is an experienced practising artist and Art Therapist and has maintained a studio practice for over 30 years. She is a regular exhibitor with COS, Cambridge Drawing Society and the Society of East Anglian Watercolourists and also exhibits in London and internationally with the Eye Contemporary Art Gallery. Jill is passionate about supporting others on their creative journey and has worked with many groups and individuals of all ages over the years both in the UK and abroad, as teacher, mentor, facilitator and guide. She is an engaging, enthusiastic and compassionate teacher who believes in creating a safe and friendly learning space.
Materials: will be provided but participants will be required to bring their own sketchbook for making their journal. Other materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own drawing materials if you have some favourites you prefer to use in your journal.
Journal: You will need to bring an A4-hardback bound sketchbook for your journal with a casebound binding (not spiral) and good quality acid-free paper e.g: Daler-Rowney Ebony A4 Sketchbook (150gsm). This needs to be robust for extended use and for water-based paints and inks.
Additional Time: To gain the most from the course, participants will be encouraged to spend around 2-3 hours per week between sessions to complete some exercises and to reflect on progress in their journal.
