Artist's StatementSue's work draws on the landscape and weather for inspiration, focusing on the emotions, drama, contrasts and patterns therein. Colour plays a vital role within my work, often layered to create vibrant yet subtle depths reflecting the intensity of the natural and the man-made. Sometimes printing from the landscape itself, found objects and ephemera. Susan is fascinated by the new and extended life of such objects, their visual impact through print, highlighting their relationship and dynamic within the landscape The Monoprints or Monotypes are created over an extended period of time like a painting. Constructed of many layers, colours and multiple techniques, each layer responding to the last, creating new, unique, and emotional landscapes.

Susan worked as Lead Tutor and Studio Manager at Curwen Print Study Centre for 17 years, developing the Certificate in printmaking skills, teaching many different age groups a variety of printmaking techniques. Susan has devised and delivered printmaking workshops for many institutions including, Blenheim Palace, the British Museum, Kettles Yard, Fitzwilliam, Museum of Anthropology and Archaeology and the Museum of Zoology Cambridge. Currently teaches printmaking workshops and courses at Stoneman Press just outside Saffron Walden, Gainsborough House and Stapleford Granary, and is an Artist Faciltatoe for Kettles Yard.
