Artist's StatementStefanie Loizou is best known for her ‘Paper Theatre’ pieces. These book sculptures are made by cutting and manipulating old books, embellishing fragments of the illustrations and transforming them into decorative pieces of art. Loizou often works within the realm of fairy-tales and began delving back into her childhood at Norwich School of Art and Design in 1997. There, she explored famous stories such as ‘Alice in Wonderland’ through different materials and techniques resulting in a collection of theatrical and decorative tiaras.
Nature is a constant influence in Loizou’s work and ephemeral objects such as a bird’s nest or the fragile skeleton of a leaf inspire her with their ethereal beauty.
Loizou lives in her hometown of Cambridge and has sold her work in establishments such as ‘Prima Vera’, ‘Cambridge Contemporary Arts’ and ‘The Castle Gallery’ in Inverness.
