Artist's StatementI studied sculpture at Winchester School of Art, graduating in 2005. After that I tried painting for a bit but I found it difficult to find the time and space, and I stopped. I've worked as a designer in one capacity or another since graduating, so I've always had a creative side to my life, but I really missed making art.

During the pandemic I decided that I would try painting again, so I signed up for the 2021 Cambridge Open Studios and got my old brushes out. It was much easier to make time for painting when I knew people would be coming to my studio expecting to see some pieces. Painting has since become something I need to do regularly, it's a huge part of my life and my wellbeing. As I'm not formally trained in painting I'm enjoying the challenges of learning to draw, mix colours, understand techniques and really see.

I'm very honoured to have a piece in the 2023 Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition, which is in May.
