Artist's StatementShirley Felts gained her BFA degree from the university of Texas.

She then worked in San Francisco as a Graphic designer for SOM Architects where she met and married her husband Derek Ellis.

They spent two years traveling first in Japan, gradually making their way to the UK,moving from Cambridge to Blackheath,London and following the passing of her husband she now resides in Saffron Walden with her daughter Katy Ellis who also paints.

She illustrated books for many years.She worked for Iwokrama rain forest research in Guyana and IPE(Ecological studies) in Brazil, painting in situ the rainforest and producing two small books of watercolours for both programmes.

She now paints landscapes,riverscapes and still life studies.
