Artist's StatementI am a printmaker and painter making artwork inspired by the countryside surrounding my home and studio in Elsworth as well as travels farther afield. My main influences come from my work in biology and a passionate interest in biodiversity. My artwork is also inspired by working in possibly the most visually exciting cities in the UK: Oxford, London and Cambridge, as well as growing up on the Kent coast a stones throw from the cliff tops!
The focus of my artwork is often on texture and its relationship with the subject matter. I use printmaking techniques such as collagraph, linocut, monoprint and drypoint, sometimes in combination and quite often experimentally modified to create a range of marks that I find exciting! I enjoy using pastels or oil paints so that the layers collide in unique and interesting ways or so that underneath layers are revealed by sheer or translucent upper layers.
