Artist's Statement

My style is usually semi-abstract; images and elements from Nature can be easily recognized but their scale and juxtaposition are not always based on how we would view them in an actual landscape.

I start with paper, card or wood and, using line or colour, begin to draw or paint in a spontaneous fashion. Ideas for the composition emerge as I notice a shape or colour that reminds me of a tree, bird or hillside (for example) and slowly the subjects and narrative of the piece becomes a fully conscious concept that I work on.
