Artist's StatementWhen we look at a stranger we see their body and skin. We know that underneath their surface lies a whole world of events, cells, DNA, and molecules, moving and working by their own rules. Scientists aim at discovering patterns, structures, and principles of these life processes. Do these discoveries reveal who we are? Do microscopic images of our cellular self show more of the person underneath the skin? My photographic work explores the nature of perception in photography, the visual expression of the unknown and our feelings evoked by the mysterious. I have curated and developed art-and-science workshops and exhibitions in the UK and during residencies in India, Japan, and USA.

known and strange things
“A photograph is nothing but surface,” Teju Cole writes with knowing irony in “Touching Strangers”.
When we look at a stranger we see their body, their surface, their skin.
We know that underneath the surface lies a whole world of events, cells, DNA, molecules, moving, working by their own rules.
Scientists aim and succeed in discovering patterns, structures, and principles of these life processes.
Do these discoveries reveal who we are? Do microscopic images of our cellular self, reveal more of the person underneath the skin?
