I am an experienced freelance artist working in both 2D and 3D, regularly exhibiting in galleries and working in collaboration with other artists. I also undertake commissions and my work is held in numerous public, corporate and private collections.

The Icons
I am currently exploring and celebrating the beauty and wonder of the natural world, using traditional techniques, many of which I learnt whilst working in picture restoration.
I have been predominantly using 24k gold leaf, on hand made gesso panels, and often using handmade paints. My intention is that these delicate and detailed paintings, over their gilded backgrounds, allow the painted subjects to become other worldly with a timeless dimension.
This body of work depicts birds, animals, flora and fauna, adorned with symbolic patterns, inspired by the religious iconography I see in the tiny churches and shrines that are scattered throughout the mountains of Garfagnana where I am lucky enough to live for part of the year. I have chosen in my own work, to celebrate the importance of nature rather than an orthodox religion.

The Abstract Work
My abstract paintings explore the dichotomy between the internal spiritual and external physical experience. I paint in oils using raw pigment and marble dust that gives the paintings both luminosity and texture, this imbues the pieces with an intensity that expresses the feeling and purpose behind their conception.

My 3D work, often based around the figure, has been greatly informed by my teaching experience. I have worked in collaboration with several leading artists and am due to launch a series of artist made contemporary door furniture this winter.
I also run life drawing classes for artists.
