“In 2024 I was lucky enough to visit the island of Skye and to be artist-in- residence at the Crinan Hotel, Argyll on the West coast of Scotland. Living in the mostly flat countryside around Cambridge I was totally captivated by that landscape of mountains, distant islands and remnants of ancient Caledonian rainforest. This series of reduction linocut prints invites viewers into that quieter, calmer world where the main thing that is changing is the ebb and flow of the tide or the ever shifting light.”

“ I grew up in the Fens, on a farm near Welney Wash Wildfowl Trust, home to thousands of overwintering swans. At the time I couldn’t wait to get away but am now drawn back to its austere beauty. I really wanted to find a way the capture the flat, watery landscape. I turned to monoprinting and dry point to convey the subtle shifts of colour and texture, and created an imagined swan's eye view of the landscape”.

I'm a keen hiker and these prints reflect the landscape that I've explored on walks around my studio in East Anglia and occasionally further afield in all seasons.

These village prints are part of an ongoing series of the village of Wendens Ambo and its distinctive architecture of thatched cottages around a Grade 1 listed church. Church Path is a much-loved view which has featured on the cover of many guidebooks and calendars. I hesitated to add another version but as it's my home I couldn't resist.
Spring Rooks shows the view from my garden and won the prize for Best 2D work at the 2023 Uttlesford Open Exhibition, a Sense of Place.
