Artist's StatementLiz graduated in graphic design in 1986 and works as a professional children’s book illustrator. Her award-winning picture books have achieved world-wide acclaim, exhibited at Bologna Book Festival and are published in many languages. Their intricate and heart-warming artworks are created using traditional media and then collaged digitally. Liz uses gouache, watercolour and acrylic paint, cuts up tiny bits of paper and generally makes a big mess in her studio. But you would never guess this when you see the finished results.

Recently returned to England after 10 years living in Australia, Liz and fellow artist, husband Mario are excited to be in Cambridge. With its quirky museums, architecture, and fascinating overheard conversations to fuel the imagination Liz is often out drawing for research and for fun. To draw an object, person, building from life is to be closer to understanding it than a mirror. You try drawing a bicycle and see where it gets you!

Alongside children’s books, Liz has created illustrated maps that explore industrial heritage, history, and adventure. NSW, Australia is peppered with her map murals. Digital prints of these are available to buy in her on-line shop.

Liz exhibited with Open Studios Leicestershire for many years prior to moving overseas. Her work is collected by state libraries and national archives. She is happy to explain her techniques; share her love of drawing in the stacks of sketchbooks and show how a picture book is made.
