Artist's StatementArt is my way of exploring our beautiful but uncertain fragile world, trying to make sense of it. My work focuses on 'natural' and 'human' landscapes and micro-worlds, with all their light, darks and absurdities. My projects often start with creative writing and sketchbook ideas to produce images across a spectrum from documentary realism to surrealist fiction and abstraction. I am particularly interested in the ways in which different photographic, printmaking and mixed media styles and digital processing can reveal new ways of experiencing the same 'reality'. And the role of environmental art as part of 'creative activism' with environmental organisations to think about realisable responses to environmental change.
