Artist's StatementI often describe myself as an incurrable biologist, because so much of my art stems ultimately from my passion for living things and my desire to communicate some of the wonder and fascination I feel about the natural world. The sculptures I make from beads and wire I make to not just look like the real thing, but feel and move like them as well. I like to feature animals people might not be familiar with, or ones they are but might not have thought to much about, and what delights me most is when people ask "are they really like this?" and being able to answer yes, and explain why.
I also do illustrative work designing aliens and fantasy creatures, and bringing to life people's characters and ideas. I enjoy the process of figuring out what traits a creature would have or what sort of clothing and culture people would develop in fantasical environments as much as the drawing and painting process itself.
