Artist's StatementMy hobby and love for ceramics has been something that I have thoroughly enjoyed around my normal career as a palliative care nurse. It means, I can ensure a consistent good work, life balance and it gives me a sanctuary to develop my creative skills with the clay. It has also led me to start my own small business in something from which I get so much pleasure.
I work from my home studio and hand throw all of the clay I use on my potter's wheel. Once handcrafted, it is then bisque fired to 950ºC, glaze is then applied, and the pieces kiln fired again up to 1250ºC.
I just love combining glazes and creating unique designs which transform the stoneware into individual pieces of work. Opening the kiln after each firing is a truly magical experience, and I never really know what exciting new colour creations I will find. Each item is totally unique. The majority of my pottery is made to be functional and for everyday use. All of my stoneware pottery is safe to use in the dishwasher, oven and microwave and is also frost proof.
