Artist's StatementHelen has returned to Cambridge, where she has been known for realistic, colourful oil paintings and iPad sketches of the city. After 11 years in Scotland she is seriously drawing and experimenting, ending up with a joyful abstract series. Drawing is useful for illustrating spiritual, personal and storied themes. There are ceramics, realistic oils, flowers, iPad prints of Cambridge and the latest drawings to look at, with T shirts, mugs and cushions as well as originals. This artist also loves what she sees and presents every day subjects playfully.

Imogenart pop - new playful abstracts

The artist was encouraged by a member of the Scottish Arts Club (during a recent exhibition) to explore the abstract style where one takes a large piece of paper, uses the whole space and the whole body to express the use of the space, and then colours. In the first, colours were explored. The style was applied to a very fast drawing of the studio space in a basement Edinburgh tenement flat. The fieldfares visiting The Meadows opposite the flat were almost invisible among the fallen leaves - and so appear in a further drawing. With a full set of Unison pastel, the technique was applied to various ideas. Since viewers appreciate them, and I enjoy doing them immensely, they are becoming my new collection. They will be available on RedBubble to purchase as home goods, and originals are always available (framed or not).

Classical figure and landscape paintings

My older work carry over into some new paintings - and a collection of mostly landscapes were recently shown at the Scottish Arts Club in Edinburgh. I learned about Old Masters methods and applied this rigorously to older works - there is some exploration of acrylic (looser paintings) and the new Artisan oils - but there is nothing like oils for painting.

Ceramics

While in Scotland I learned how to throw pots. Decoration was by carving then adding underglaze to highlight the images. Every pot is different in shape and design, so there is a guarantee that no ceramic of mine is ever duplicated.

Recent drawings after a year at the Royal Drawing School

Many experiments with different techniques have resulted in a plethora of images and pleasant results. Illustrations have also come out of this work, with graphic narrative featuring as something to pursue. Prints are included in this section at the moment.
