Artist's StatementMy ceramic practice traces the landscapes of my life; the Lake District, urban London and recently the Cambridgeshire Fens. This new work responds to the rhythms of an ancient and manipulated, now industrially managed landscape with its stoic fenlanders. The massive scale of the Fenland spaces with unexpected and extraordinary colours, hues and textures have provided immediate and visceral opportunities for my skill and visual language. I interrogate ideas exploiting flax paper porcelain, an innovative clay technology allowing hand built forms to be constructed with components that are only tenuously connected, linking her previous technique of strata casting with hand crafted processes.
