Artist's StatementGillian Northmore is an amateur artist living and working in Cambridge, UK. Her style of painting is still at an early stage having only started in oils in 2017, she is self-taught and loves to bring nature indoors by painting scenery with the natural light filtered through trees and water and reflections of light seen in an animal’s eye. Her work in pencil, chalk and charcoal has improved over the years having taught herself from online courses.
At present her work has not been exhibited only in small village affairs and she has a shop on https://northorpeart-4138.myshopify.com Gillian enjoys trying different forms of artwork recently she has tried abstract painting
In 2022 Gillian won The Prestige Award for Artist of the Year for the South East of England. And is a member of the Visual Arts Association and has been published in Art4Any catalogue in April 2021

My work is rooted in a commitment to craftsmanship and a fascination with the world’s atmosphere and character. Working primarily in oils, I explore a range of subjects—from Mediterranean harbors and quiet landscapes to expressive animal portraits and still life. Each piece is shaped by my travels, especially time spent along the Mediterranean coast, where light and color continually inspire my palette and approach.

I aim to create paintings that are both visually striking and grounded in genuine experience. Whether capturing the energy of a bustling port or the calm of a familiar scene, my goal is to offer artwork that invites connection and conversation.
