Artist's StatementI have been a full-time Basketmaker for twenty plus years with a passion for detail, accurate technique and exploring the potential of my materials.I mainly work with Willow and Rush with occasional pieces in Cane,Leather, and Raffia.I have a number of very functional core baskets designed for every day use such as shopping and log baskets; Rush place mats and storage baskets;Oval Potato harvesting baskets and Eel traps very much of the Ely fen circa mid 20th Century. I am a Yeoman Basketmaker to The Worshipful Company of Basketmakers.I sell my work direct from my studio, or via post. I consider commissions and have recently designed and made for both private individuals and film production companies.I teach small groups(maximum of 4) regularly from my home workshop and tailor these to suit level of experience, techniques and materials.Alongside traditional work runs my exploration of the materials and how else I can use them forming vessels, platters and even garments.I have exhibited in this country and in Europe over the last decade with turning points for new work selected for the following:East Weaves West-Basketry from Japan & Britain 2007Winner of Best Basket of the Year 2010-awarded by The Worshipful Company of BasketmakersEast Anglian Basketry,The Gallery at Norwich University College of the Arts 2011Collaboration with Helen Martino at Cambridge Contemporary Arts 2014Basketry Identity-exhibition curated by The Basketmakers Association at Riverhouse Arts Centre, Walton on Thames 2015Rush "Green Men" Costumes for The Lord Mayors Show 2018

Willow Harvest
I grow a number of beautiful Basketmaking willows close to where I live and the growing of materials to weave is very important to the creative process but also in lowering my carbon footprint and treading lightly on the planet.
Rush Harvest
We harvest the wild Rush that grows in waterways around Ely for Basketmaking and Chair seating.
