Artist's StatementA couple of years ago I did a patchwork and quilting course at my local college, bought a good basic sewing machine and started sewing. Houses and trees are recurring motifs that remind me of the street where I used to play as a child in the 1970s Virovitica - a town in Croatia – where I am from. I am inspired by Scandinavian and Eastern European folk art, children book illustrations and the fabric itself. Many of the fabrics I use are cottons and linens I have collected over the years as well as my husband’s shirts and friend’s children’s old clothes. I make wall hangings, banners, bunting, bags, pencil cases, reassuringly padded glasses cases, tablet and laptop cases, pot holders etc. All except bunting, bags and pencil cases is quilted.
