Artist's StatementMy first love is portrait painting, still life a close second with an occasional foray into abstract. Whilst my style tends to be representational, each painting includes a varying degree of abstract features. I am currently following three separate artistic paths all in developing styles and in a variety of media. This is because I've come to art late in life and choose to go where inspiration leads rather than pursue only what makes sound commercial sense. Much but not all of my work can be gathered into three main collections or series: Portraits, Shelflife and Tumbledown still-life series. For portraits I use photos rather than sitters. My preferred media are soft pastel, oil pastel, and oil paints, and I also enjoy mixing a whole variety of media in one painting - whatever works.
I work from a studio in the garden about 15 minutes walk from the Round House in the City Centre and enjoy showing my work to anyone interested at any time of year by special arrangement..... and I am much happier than I look in this photo!
Regular exhibitions: Cambridge Open Studios, Cambridge Drawing Society, and other local exhibitions.
