Artist's StatementI paint still life and landscapes that explore the concept of place and placelessness. These are objects and spaces that are the settings of everyday life. They can seem banal, but can be unexpected sources of emotional connection. I explore these spaces using unique viewpoints and enlarged scale to invite contemplation and capture the feeling of private moments of solitude.

Non-Places
These were inspired by the writing of French anthropologist Marc Augé, who called ‘non-places’ the quintessential modern space. These are everyday in-between spaces, such as places of transit, which can seem impersonal and ‘placeless’, yet paradoxically can provide solitude, intrigue and a sense of connection.
