Artist's StatementAfter raising my children and taking early retirement from a demanding job in the charity sector, I can now spend time doing creative things that I love. My husband built my studio in the back garden where I spend the majority of my time...In my happy place.
I am self-taught and have developed my own style.
Inspiration for my work comes from many different sources. It may come from the environment, a film I have seen, a book that I have read or from something that someone has said that resonates.

Paintings - I am influenced by nature, by the beautiful countryside where I live, and from holidays, the coastline in this country is stunning. I love the big skies, changing cloud formations but equally enjoy the intricacy studying flowers and hedgerows.
From an idea or observation, i make a sketch or take a photograph as a reference that I will translate onto canvas. I mainly use acrylic paints but happily mix media, using the process of layering with brushes or palette knife work, whatever feels good to obtain the right tone.

Ceramics - I held my first piece of clay in Autumn 2022 and I have spent considerable time thinking, reading and planning what I can do with it ever since. Hand building is my preference but I have also turned my hand to using the wheel. Each piece has its own feel, and no two items can be exactly the same. It is a time-consuming process; from wedging the clay to making, bisque and glaze firings, can take weeks. For me, I love that the possibilities of what I can make are endless, and so rewarding.

If you choose to buy, you will be purchasing a one off, unique piece, which I hope you will enjoy for many years to come.
