I live in rural Cambridgeshire and enjoy the countryside and nature. I like to take time to acknowledge the small details that often get overlooked by most of us in our busy lifestyles.
My techniques are mostly self-taught through exploration, curiosity and experimentation.
I always try to find a way that I can include natural sustainable materials, media or tools in my work.
My current pieces, animal and plant illustrations, are drawn using a buddleia stick dipped in Indian ink. Application of the ink using a stick gives an uncontrolled finish, which, like nature, is unpredictable yet beautiful.
I also enjoy printmaking and I am fascinated by patterns and shapes formed in nature.
I believe art should be not be intimidating, and should be accessible to everyone, regardless of background or experience. I offer workshops to inspire creativity and discovery. https://alichappellbatesart.com/workshops
I am passionate about plants and am currently studying RHS qualifications alongside my art practice.

Ali Chappell-Bates's Portfolios
Drawn with Indian ink and a Buddleia stick.
Application of the ink using a stick gives an uncontrolled finish, which, like nature, is unpredictable yet beautiful. I also love to select unusual papers with character, plant based and recycled materials. This collection is on unbleached paper that will start to look more natural over time.
