Artist's StatementSemi Abstract Seascapes

My seascapes have taken a radical sea change in the last couple of years from reflective quiet paintings full of subtle transitions and gradients creating atmospheric minimal seascapes to now exploring a bolder more colourful palette and bolder forms that reflects my resolution to use my painting to lift my spirits. With a deliberatley relaxed and playful approach to both application of oil paint, to taking liberties with perspective and scale I intuitively find the seascape evolving amongst the random marks which always surprises me and makes me smile.

Biography

I work from my studio aboard my narrowboat with views across the washes in Cambridgeshire. Originally from Cornwall, my lifes path gradually took me to the flat lands of the Fens and closer to my favourite coastline, the Norfolk coast though I return to Cornwall and the Isles of Scillies when time allows. I have a fine art degree from Chelsea School of Art and after a career in web design I now focus on painting. My work features in private collections and has been exhibited widely across the UK.
