Artist's StatementSusan throws all her pots on the wheel. Although much of her work revolves around the production of vessels for domestic use, she also likes to experiment with form, at present creating tilted or slanted shapes with the vertical shifted off mid-centre. The emphasis is hence on form, decoration being a distraction. Most of her pots are stoneware, though she is now also working in porcelain. Stoneware glazes tend to be muted in colour or, as an antidote, plain white. The aim is simplicity of effect. She is firing at present in an electric kiln, at 1270ºC. Susan exhibits regularly in the Cambridge region and elsewhere. She is a Selected Member of Anglian Potters and exhibits in their summer and winter shows, and holds a winter open studio on the last weekend in November. See her website www.susancupitt.com.
