Artist's StatementI am a hand-building potter. I went to pottery evening classes and enjoyed it so much that I came back for more.
I use coiling, slab building and pinching techniques. I often paint the leatherhard clay with coloured slips and scraffito or carve through the surface. I like to use different tools to texture the clay. I like manipulating the clay into different shapes and make little animals shapes for use as cane tops. My ceramics are often sculptural, but in an abstract way and every single piece is different. By far not everything I make is is sculptural, I make planters, vases, mugs and plates etc as well.
Most of my work is made using stoneware clay. I use oxides, glazes and sometimes glass to finish the objects. I fire in an electric kiln to 1250 degrees C. This means the pieces are dishwasher and frostproof. My ideas are influenced by plants, nature and people.
