Artist's Statement

I create richly textured, vibrant wall hangings by combining hand and machine embroidery over a rich silk background to create abstract pieces, often inspired by spiritual themes, poetry and nature. I am orginally from northern India ans my interest in textiles stems from that rich heritage. Since childhood I have been fascinated by the play of light on silk and when I was striving to find my artistic path many years ago, using textile as my medium of expression seemed an obvious choice, rather than paint for instance. My style has often been described as "painterly" and I regard myself first and foremost as a colourist. With the passing of years I have tended to limit the range of techniques I use. I turn to them as old friends, chosen because they enable me to express the idea or capture the feeling which inspired the piece.

I have done a lot of travelling in the past two years as I needed to reflect following a bereavement. However, it is now time to develop fresh ideas, embark on new work and plan future exhibitions. I am always delighted to see visitors by appointment.

I now very much look forward to taking part in Cambridge Open Studios this July.
