Artist's StatementMy art is usually a response to lived experiences. Personal interactions with art, events, people and the forces of nature give rise to sensations and ideas resulting in the making of new forms using a variety of approaches. The human figure and birds are often used as metaphors. I use a variety of materials including bronze, wood, and marble. The scale of the work varies considerably from several metres to small, fitting in the palm of the hand.

Presently I am modelling hands (depicting dexterity) spinning yarn from carded fleece.

“Cui Bono” is modelled directly in wax and then cast into bronze. Three interlocking ballerinas represent the demise of the Lancashire cotton industry during the 1960s. Also “Stag Triumphant” in bronze wood and steel, an anti deer stalking piece. And “War Madonnas” in bronze and steel, particularly apt at the moment again, representing the horrors of war.
