Artist's StatementI am a self taught artist and have been painting in oils for a couple of decades now. I paint almost exclusively with a palette knife, in a loose, dynamic style using a vivid palette of colours. My paintings are often landscapes drawing on the East Anglian landscape for inspiration, from the Cambridgeshire fens through to the seaside of Norfolk and Suffolk, though my most recent work has been loose still lifes of cacti inspired by a painting I completed on return from Lanzarote years ago.
2026 marks my return to Cambridge Open Studios after a hiatus of a few years and establishing my studio at Haddenham Arts Centre. I'm grateful for the opportunity to share with visitors an insight into my work and methods and chat things art. I have pieces on show and for sale of all sizes, some on canvas, some on paper - framed miniatures to large borderless canvases, with some very affordable pricing. I frame my own and other artists' work, as well as offering a framing service to visitors of the arts centre (email for info!). I look forward to welcoming you to my studio in July.

Cacti

A collection of work for an exhibition. The original inspiration was a section of a canvas I'd painted years ago on return from a holiday in Lanzarote; a very loose representation of a prickly pair cactus. I'd been meaning to revisit that for twenty years and finally did so. The vivid backgrounds? No idea, but they turned the collection into something along the lines of pop art.

The Fens

I've lived both near and in Cambridgeshire's fenland for a couple of decades and like for many others in the artistic community, its characteristic landscape holds a fascination. Sometimes bleak, featureless of sorts the convergence of the perspective becomes a dominant aspect of the work. Colours are mine, not sure what drives them but that's how I've always painted.
