Artist's Statement
I create bold colourful abstract paintings mainly using acrylic paint. Geometric in style, the paintings reflect the urban environment, made up of circular and geometric forms. Using various perspective points and layering techniques the paintings contain depth, transparency and a sense of movement. I decide and make certain rules for each painting, but never have a picture of the final result in mind. I try to keep this as unpredictable as I can. In this way the painting develops as I add each layer and the final outcome remains a mystery. Each stage is a surprise and an excitement. In some of my pieces I combine texture with an ordered grid system over the top. This is to experiment with opposites and to see if order and chaos or intellect and rationality can work together in the same piece.
I also paint a range of seascapes in acrylic on canvas inspired by trips abroad and also from my imagination.
After graduating in 2002 from Northampton University with a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art, I have exhibited my artwork in a variety of venues in Cambridgeshire and London, including: Parallax Art Fair, Chelsea, Brick Lane Art Gallery, The Foundling Museum, Affordable Art Fair in Battersea, Wall Candy Gallery in Fulham, Euroart Studios, East London Contemporary Art Fair, Primavera, Byard Art, Cambridge Open Studios and Addenbrookes Hospital.
